Urban design on exhibition as works on North East Link Tunnels steps up

Vic Department of Transport

The Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) for the North East Link Tunnels is on exhibition for comment ahead of major construction.

Before major construction of the North East Link Tunnels gets underway, we’re asking the local community what they think of the look and feel of what’s planned for their area.

The Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) shows designs from Watsonia to Bulleen including new parklands, walking and cycling paths and improvements to local roads. The plan also includes Eastern Freeway upgrades in Bulleen and Balwyn North.

With longer 6.5km tunnels to Watsonia in response to community feedback, as well as a new tree-lined Greensborough Road boulevard, simpler interchanges and new open space, people can see detailed maps and drawings and have their say on design features in their local area.

The detailed designs come as we get ready to set up construction compounds in Watsonia, Macleod and Yallambie to support major tunnelling works and start building the launch pad for the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) in Watsonia.

The UDLP for the North East Link Tunnels is available for public comment at Engage Victoria from Wednesday 11 May 2022 until 5pm, Tuesday 31 May 2022.

The plan is also on display at drop-in community information sessions every Thursday night and Saturday until the end of May, and available to view at local council offices and libraries.

We’ll be using what we hear in submissions to update the UDLP before it is submitted to the Minister for Planning for approval ahead of major tunnelling works.
