NT Government

5 January 2022

Almost 2000 Territory kids aged 5-11 have already secured bookings for their first COVID-19 vaccine within two weeks of bookings coming online.

The latest figures as of 4 January show 1955 Territorians aged 5-11 have been booked in to get their first dose from as early as 10 January, 2022.

Children in this age bracket are eligible to receive two doses of the paediatric COVID-19 vaccine, eight weeks apart. The dose for the 5-11 age group is one third of the amount for people aged 12 and above.

Vaccine appointments can be booked at NT Health vaccination centres, participating GP clinics, respiratory clinics, pharmacies and Aboriginal Community Controlled health clinics.

Parents and legal guardians will be required to consent to their child being vaccinated.

Territorians have done an outstanding job with more than 95% aged 16 and above fully vaccinated.

Quotes from Minister for Health Natasha Fyles:

“It’s encouraging to see thousands of Territorians getting in early to secure a vaccine appointment for their children as eligibility opens on January 10.

“This is the best thing to do to protect your family, friends and broader community.

“We were the first jurisdiction to open the vaccine rollout to kids aged 12 and above and look forward to seeing a strong vaccination take up for our youngest eligible Territorians.”
