Vale Justice Ewan Charles Crawford AC

Elise Archer, Attorney General

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I wish to express my deepest sympathy and offer my condolences to the Crawford family.

Justice Ewan Crawford served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, commencing in 1988.

In 2008, he took on the role of Chief Justice of Tasmania until his retirement in 2013, also serving as the Lieutenant Governor during this period.

Former Chief Justice Crawford had a long, distinguished legal and judicial career and was very highly regarded by his colleagues in the legal fraternity.

He was both a member of the Law Society of Tasmania and a former President.

The people of Tasmania have benefited from his wisdom, intellect and thoughtful nature over several decades.

In 2014, former Chief Justice Crawford was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to the judiciary, the law and the legal profession.

A man of dignity, whose distinguished service to the State is admired and shall be remembered by all Tasmanians.

Our thoughts are with Justice Crawford’s loved ones at this time.
