Vehicle Crash Katherine

A vehicle has crashed in Katherine East, after Police terminated a pursuit on Tuesday morning; the driver was arrested for numerous offences.

At about 5.00am on Tuesday 6 August 2019, Katherine Police attempted a traffic apprehension on a Holden Commodore that failed to stop. A pursuit ensued, which was terminated by Police due to dangerous speed. This vehicle later crashed into the fence of a house on Acacia Drive, Katherine East.

Police located the driver of the Commodore a 26 year-old Katherine male near the crash scene, who was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Drive a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol;
  • Drive in a manner dangerous;
  • Fail to comply with the direction of a police officer;
  • Drive a motor vehicle whilst unlicensed;
  • Exceed the speed limit;
  • Fail to stop at crash scene; and
  • Drive and unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.

Further drink driving charges are pending following the analysis of blood taken from this male at the Katherine District Hospital.

Katherine Superintendent, Daniel Shean said, “The actions of this driver are deplorable; he put the lives of the public and police at risk. Fortunately, on this occasion, no one was injured.”
