Vehicle fires in Surfers Paradise, QLD

A 33-year-old man has been charged after allegedly setting fire to a number of vehicles in Surfers Paradise overnight.

Police will allege that between 10:45pm and 11:55pm, five cars were set on fire within the Surfers Paradise area.

Two occurred along Hamilton Avenue, two in River Terrace and one on Vista Street.

Police, with the assistance of Gold Coast City Council’s CCTV network, were able to track the alleged offender to Thornton Street where he was arrested a short time later.

The 33-year-old Ormeau man has been charged with five counts of wilful damage and one count of breaching bail.

He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
