The State Government’s Secondary Vehicle Immobiliser Subsidy Trial has been embraced with almost 70 per cent of the Cairns vouchers now spoken for.
Since the launch on August 2, 5,467 eligible Cairns residents have obtained vouchers and 909 of those car owners have redeemed their vouchers, with many more booked in with approved installers.
The State Government is providing a $500 subsidy voucher to vehicle owners as part of a $10 million investment to support the installation of up to 20,000 secondary engine immobilisers, with 8,000 allocated to Cairns.
Cairns District Officer Chief Superintendent Rhys Newton said it is encouraging that so many community members have taken advantage of this crime prevention strategy.
“We have received very positive feedback from vehicle owners who have had their device installed through the program.
“We know the immobiliser strengthens the security of the vehicle, so if you are an eligible resident of Cairns, and haven’t applied for a voucher yet, we encourage you to take-up the offer.
“We also urge voucher holders to find an approved installer on the website and book your vehicle in, to avoid any rush or possible delay with installation times at the end of the trial.
“For most people, their vehicle is a significant financial investment and a necessity for their work and lives. This trial is a way for people to further protect their vehicles, at a subsidised cost.”
