Vibrant chaos of ‘Kaleidoscope’ inspires new local artists exhibition at Dogwood Crossing, Miles

Locals are being encouraged to join local artists and immerse themselves in the works the region’s most creative talents at this year’s Regional Artists’ Exhibition Opening Night on the 5th November.

The evening will be a night of celebrations as the winners of the 2022 Regional Artist Exhibition will be announced, and the artistic showcase opened for display over several weeks.

This year’s theme ‘Kaleidoscope’ inspired 34 different local artists to enter their creative works across a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, printing, photography, digital art, new media, textiles, sculpture, and glass.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said she was very eager to welcome locals to the ninth instalment of this celebration of local creative talent.

“This year’s exhibition challenged artists to explore the theme of ‘Kaleidoscope’ and examine the concept of an endless cycle of creation and destruction that plays out as things fall apart and are put back together” Cr Maguire said.

“Artists were encouraged to reflect on the broader cycles and patterns that unfold in nature and in people themselves. It was a fascinating theme with a lot of possibility, and I am looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful creative interpretations.

“The creative arts are literally one of the most vibrant parts of our region’s vibrant, active communities. Exhibitions like the Regional Artist’s Exhibition give us the opportunity to encourage arts and cultural participation, as well as provide support and opportunity for our local artists to showcase their work to the region.

“On the Western Downs, ‘it’s the people that make it’ and when it comes to the fantastic artworks in this exhibition, that is quite literally true. Opening night is always a sensational time as artists and art enthusiasts from across the region to come together to celebrate and enjoy the very best of our region’s arts and culture.

“I am certain visitors to the gallery will find artworks in this year’s collection inspiring and captivating. I cannot wait to see them, and I encourage everyone to come along to opening night, or visit Dogwood Crossing during the exhibition period, and experience the collection for themselves.

The Exhibition Opening night is a free event and all residents and visitors are welcome.
