Victoria’s massive pipeline of infrastructure projects has been showcased to major Chinese construction companies and investors, as part of Premier Daniel Andrews sixth official visit to China.
Victoria’s Big Build is over $80 billion pipeline of major projects, including the North East Link, Metro Tunnel, West Gate Tunnel, Melbourne Airport Rail Link, and the Suburban Rail Loop.
These transformational projects have supported more than 115,000 jobs since 2014 in our state, but they also provide opportunities for significant international investment that helps ensure we get value for taxpayers’ money.
These opportunities were highlighted at an investment roundtable, attended by leaders from China Communications Construction Company, China Construction Bank, China International Contractors Association, China Railway Group, PowerChina, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Beijing SPC Environment Protection Tech, JSTI and Sichuan Development Holding.
These companies are in charge of some of the world’s biggest and most complex infrastructure projects, including the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, the renovation of the Alexander Hamilton Bridge in New York City, the Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnel, and the Doha Tower (also known as Burj Qatar) in Qatar.
The roundtable also provided the chance to showcase Victorian know-how to a Chinese audience, helping our state’s world-class engineering and design firms be better placed to bid for and win contracts for Belt and Road Initiative infrastructure projects around the world.
The Premier also held a number of meetings with Chinese officials, including at the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission.
