Victoria Welcomes New Judge To Supreme Court

The Victorian Government has welcomed a new judge to the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes has announced the appointment of Ian Waller KC to the Supreme Court of Victoria on 12 September 2023.

Justice Waller has over three decades of experience as a barrister specialising in commercial law, corporations, contract, equity and trusts as well as class actions and environmental law litigation.

He has been ranked as one of Victoria’s leading commercial law silks, in addition to holding various leadership roles within the Jewish community.

Justice Waller has served as a member of the Victorian Bar Ethics Committee since 2021 and a member of the Victorian Legal Admissions Committee (previously the Board of Examiners) since 2008.

After commencing his legal career at Minter Ellison in 1987, Justice Waller was admitted to practice in 1988, signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 1989 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2007.

Justice Waller holds a Master of Laws, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne.

Justice Waller is filling the vacancy left by the appointment of Justice Catherine Button KC to the Federal Court of Australia.
