Victorian Seniors Festival Reimagined

Victoria’s one million people aged 60 years and older are celebrated in the 38th Victorian Seniors Festival.

This year’s theme is In the groove! which speaks to feeling groovy, being a groovy cool cat, the grooves of a record and a relaxed and happy vibe.

In line with public health advice related to Coronavirus (COVID-19), the 2020 Festival has been be produced as an entirely online Festival, called the Victorian Seniors Festival reimagined.

The Festival reimagined is being delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s mental health enhancement initiatives to help seniors experiencing loneliness and isolation, and to help meet demand as Victorians reach out for help with stress and isolation due to coronavirus.

From May through October 2020 there will be weekly uploads of performances to watch, and from July through October there will be monthly radio content to listen to.

The radio programs will include music and entertainment features from nostalgia to contemporary artists, radio plays from Agatha Christie and spoken word, poetry and prose.

Golden Days Radio will feature Bing Crosby and Friends series, A Night at the Theatre series and At the Picture Palace series.

This year we welcome Tristan Meecham and Bec Reid as our video hosts. Tristan and Bec are the dynamic duo All the Queens Men who the Festival has worked with on The Coming Back Out Ball and the LGBTI Dance Clubs.

With physical distancing rules in place, Bec and Tristan meet and host our video performers from the comfort of their own homes using technology in ways the Festival never knew were possible.

Our radio content is also recorded separately and put together by our radio producers to adhere to physical distancing restrictions.
