Violent assault appeal at Canungra

Detectives from the Organised Crime Gangs Group, Taskforce Maxima, are seeking public assistance to identify a group of men following investigations into a violent assault in Canungra last year.

This morning police arrested a 39-year-old man in relation to the assault following the execution of a search warrant at a North Ipswich residence. The man, who police will allege is a member of the Iron Horseman Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, has been charged with affray, possess dangerous drug, possess category M weapon (knuckle dusters) and wear prohibited item in public. He was bailed to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 23 May.

Around 9.45am on Sunday 12 September 2021, a group of men entered the Outpost Café where it be alleged, they approached two men and assaulted one of the men before feeling the scene.

The group of seven men left the premises in a Ford Ranger and Toyota Tarago.

As part of an appeal, footage released shows the group of men confronting two men sitting at the table, a man in the group then assaults one of the men. Investigators are seeking any witnesses with relevant information to identify the group of men or who witnessed the assault to come forward.

The 66-year-old man received serious injuries from the assault.

The two men and the group were not known to each other. A verbal altercation had occurred between the men and one member of the group just before 9am on Beaudesert Nerang Road.
