Highway Patrol officers have charged a man after they seized approximately $840,000 in cannabis during a vehicle stop in the state’s south.
About 11am yesterday (Tuesday 8 September 2026) officers attached to Yass Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle on the Hume Highway, Bookham, for the purposes of random testing.
The driver and single occupant of the vehicle – a 44-year-old man – was subjected to roadside alcohol and drug testing and allegedly returned a positive result to cocaine.
Following a search of the vehicle, police located several large, black garbage bags allegedly containing cannabis.
The man was arrested and he and his vehicle were taken to Yass Police Station. On arrival at Yass Police Station a search of the vehicle was completed with the ten bags containing 79 kilos of cannabis with an estimated street value of $840,000.
The man was charged with supply prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 3 today (Wednesday 9 September 2026)
