Charming little Timboon has far more to offer than visitors might expect, earning it a spot in the finals of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council’s Top Tourism Town Awards in the small towns category.

Corangamite Shire Council Mayor Ruth Gstrein called on everyone who loves the town to vote and help give the town the recognition it deserves.

“It’s a beautiful, friendly town right at the gateway to the Great Ocean Road hinterland and 12 Apostles Food Artisans Gourmet Trail,” Cr Gstrein said.

“The Top Tourism Town Awards recognise towns that deliver amazing visitor experiences. There is no doubt Timboon does just that with its gourmet local produce, boutique accommodation and nature-based tourism for hikers and cyclists.

“Council is calling on all locals and visitors who have discovered our fantastic little gem to support us and vote for Timboon as your favourite Victorian town.

“Our staff at the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre did a terrific job with our entry submission. You can see their promotional video and a three-day itinerary of what to do when visiting the town at vtic.com.au/toptourismtown/timboon .

“There’s also a music playlist on Spotify to get you into the ‘world away’ spirit – ‘Songs in the Key of – Timboon’.”

South Ward Councillor Kate Makin said the town of 800 people would love to welcome visitors who had yet to discover the town and its surrounding treasures.

“Being named a Top Tourism Town would really put us on the map for people looking for a country getaway,” Cr Makin said.

“Timboon is a really attractive spot to stay for a few days and explore the town and surrounding area.

“There’s a great entrepreneurial spirit here and winning this award will show a whole new audience just how many reasons there are to visit and explore more than just the 12 Apostles.

“Locals love living here because of our picturesque bushlands, rolling hills and the rich pastures that support our fantastic producers of cheese, ice-cream, chocolate, wool, whisky and so much more. “I encourage everyone to have a look at our entry and vote.”

Voting is open here until 12 pm, Thursday 27 May.
