The McGowan Government has allocated more than $49,500 in grants for local governments, community organisations, schools and workplaces to promote active travel for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.

The Leighton Community Action Network Town Team will use the Major Event Grant of $12,000 to hold WA Bike Month’s flagship event, the Leighton Slow Roll on Sunday, October 17.

Local and Minor Event Grant include:

    • $4000 to the City of Belmont for their Cycle through the City and Belmont Bike Breakfast events
    • $1500 to the Albany Cycling Club Inc. to host free guided bike rides
    • $206 to Lake Grace District High School to host a community breakfast for WA Bike Month

WA Bike Month 2021 is coordinated by WestCycle with support from the Department of Transport.

People participating in WA Bike Month Events are encouraged to share their bike riding activities using the #wabikemonth2021 and #ridetogetherwa hashtags, which can be shared across WA Bike Month social media channels to encourage others to join in the fun.

For more information on WA Bike Month 2021 events, visit the WA Bike Month website or follow the WA Bike Month Facebook and Instagram pages.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“WA Bike Month is back, with 39 events to be held across the State, from the Great Southern to the upper Gascoyne.

“I encourage everyone – from experienced riders to those who may be getting on the bike for the first time – to participate in a WA Bike Month event in their area and share their #ridetogetherwa moment this October.

“Our Government is investing a record $265 million dollars in active transport infrastructure around WA over the next four years, creating a more connected cycling network that will make it easier than ever for us to get around on our bikes.”
