  • Western Australians are encouraged to enter the 2022 Change Maker Awards for going above and beyond in saving 10 cent containers from landfill.

The awards celebrate the exceptional efforts of WA schools, community groups, businesses, individuals, charities and refund point operators that have embraced Containers for Change.

More than 1.5 billion containers have been recycled since the program launched in October 2020 – enough to circle the globe 6.8 times.

There are now 260 container refund points across WA run by 76 operators.

This year, there are eight categories to enter, with $2,000 prize money on offer. The recipient of the coveted Change Maker of the Year award will be selected from the group of winners and take home $5,000.

Enter online at https://changemaker.awardsplatform.com before Monday, 3 October. Finalists and winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony on Friday, 4 November.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

“Every contribution helps. Whether you’ve saved 5,000 or 500,000 containers from landfill, we’re working together to create change.

“I encourage you to enter the awards. This is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of our waste warriors, while motivating others to reduce, reuse and recycle.”

As stated by Containers for Change CEO Tim Cusack:

“We’re excited to celebrate the incredible recycling achievements by our local community groups and the positive impact they’re having on the environment.

“It’s great to see Western Australians continue to embrace Containers for Change and make a real difference to improving our recycling habits.”
