A one-stop platform to give electric vehicle (EV) buyers the information they need to make informed choices has been launched by the State Government.
The new EV strategy webpage hosts helpful and informative videos that will assist consumers by providing a buyer’s guide, and busting common myths associated with EV ownership.
Significant milestones of the State Government’s EV strategy to date include:
- More than 12,000 EVs registered in Western Australia;
- More than 6.5 per cent of new car sales in WA during 2023 have been EVs;
- Uptake of EVs has been boosted by 10,000 available rebates of $3,500;
- The first 12 EV fast-charging sites on the WA EV Network are now in operation, with the remaining sites to be completed by mid-2024;
- Injection of $130 million to build 130 electric buses in WA. Matched funds from the Australian Federal Government will go towards associated bus depot charging infrastructure; and
- Rollout of the ‘ChargeUp’ grant scheme to support installation of more than 400 EV chargers across 200 sites for local governments, small businesses, and not for profits.
Consumers in the market for an EV will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel for a test drive, and talk to experts at the Australian Electric Vehicle Association EV Expo from 3-5 November 2023, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. The WA Government is the event’s strategic sponsor.
As stated by Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby:
“This Cook Government initiative isn’t just about getting Western Australians into electric vehicles – it’s also about ensuring the EVs on our roads are powered by reliable and affordable clean energy.
“With this transition we will see a range of benefits that extend beyond emissions reduction.
“It will deliver environmental benefits, new job opportunities, better health and financial outcomes, increased fuel security, cleaner cities, along with lower maintenance and running costs for motorists.
“By working together, industry and Government can position regional WA and our cities to be driven by cleaner energy, and drive WA towards a zero emissions future by 2050.”
