Warragul to host 2021 Country LC Swimming Championships

This media release is being shared on behalf of Swimming Victoria and Gippsland Swimming Inc.

Swimming Victoria, together with Gippsland Swimming Inc. and Baw Baw Shire Council, are pleased to announce Warragul as the new location for the 2021 Victorian Country LC Championships.

The Championships will be held at the Warragul Leisure Centre from 23-25 January 2021.

The 2020/21 Swimming Victoria Competition Season has been dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which forced original host, Mildura to reconsider their opportunity to accommodate the Championships. After reaching out to several districts, Gippsland have kindly offered to take over this role.

Swimming Victoria CEO, Jason Hellwig is extremely grateful to the district and council for agreeing to host the Championships.

“As previous hosts with a lot of experience we know Gippsland will be able to take over the requirements of this competition with ease. Understandably, this will be a very different Country LC Championships than we are used to, however the decision to keep this in a regional location was a key factor taken into consideration when determining a new location. We are thrilled to again be working with the district and Council in making this a great competition for all those in country Victoria.” he said.

Gippsland Swimming President, Jacqueline Madden is excited to welcome the Championships back to Warragul.

“Gippsland Swimming Inc., with our 7 member clubs, are pleased to partner with Baw Baw Shire Council to host 2021 Victorian Country LC Championships. We are working hard to ensure all steps are taken to provide an event to suit current times. Things may be delivered differently and in a pared back way but the commitment to implement the best event for both athletes and our sport is paramount.” she said.

Baw Baw Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Dupe has welcomed the opportunity to host such a wonderful event in the municipality once again.

“Baw Baw Shire Council is proud to partner with Swimming Victoria and Gippsland Swimming to bring the Victorian Country Long Course Championship to our region. We see this event as a great way to help regional communities return to some sense of normality and support Regional Victoria’s aspiring swimmers to chase their dreams.”

The Victorian Country LC Championships are open to Swimming Victoria registered swimming members of affiliated country clubs.

The event will be delivered in line with COVID-19 restrictions at the time to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
