Mitchell Shire Council has more than doubled the amount of waste diverted from landfill in the first month of its new four-bin kerbside collection service.
In March 2025, 55 per cent of kerbside waste was diverted from landfill – a significant improvement from the 26 per cent in March 2024 under the previous two-bin system.
While it’s still early days, the results show that separating food and garden organics, from general rubbish is already making a real difference.
Mayor Cr John Dougall said the result reflected the community’s strong effort to make the system work.
