Wattle Grove Traffic Incident Charges

Midland Detectives have charged a man in relation to an incident on Tonkin Highway, Wattle Grove yesterday afternoon, Monday 22 November 2021, in which another man was seriously wounded.
About 4:45pm the 52-year-old male victim was driving a Nissan Maxima south on Tonkin Highway, between Hale Road and Welshpool Road East and commenced merging from the terminating left lane into the continuing middle lane. At the same time a 45-year-old man was driving a Ford Falcon in the middle lane, just behind the victim’s vehicle.
It will be alleged the driver of the Ford Falcon attempted to pull ahead of the victim, despite the victim indicating that he was merging. It will be further alleged the driver of the Ford Falcon struck the Nissan Maxima several times before entering the gravel shoulder on the left side of the road, cutting off the Nissan Maxima and then proceeded to enter the right lane. Both vehicles then stopped in traffic being held up by the traffic lights controlling the Welshpool Road East intersection.
The victim parked his vehicle and walked around it inspecting the damage it had received. The driver of the Ford Falcon exited his vehicle and approached the victim. The two men became involved in a verbal altercation and kicked each other’s vehicles.
It will be further alleged the driver of the Ford Falcon produced a bladed weapon and stabbed the victim in his abdomen. The victim drove from the scene, however only travelled several hundred metres before he realised he was seriously injured, at which point he stopped and sought medical assistance.
Members of the public prevented the driver of the Ford Falcon from leaving the initial scene, where he was arrested by the attending police officers.
The driver of the Ford Falcon, a 45-year-old man from Lockridge, has been charged with ‘Reckless Driving’ and ‘Grievous Bodily Harm’. He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Midland Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 23 November 2021.
