It’s Local Government Week, an event dedicated to the important work councils do for their communities. To acknowledge our dedicated staff, we are sharing with you a bit about them and how they help you in Kempsey Shire.

This is Josh and he is an Formworker in our Works team. He starts his day at the Depot like many staff and begins loading materials and tools for the day’s job.

“My tasks range from forming up and pouring concrete for footpaths, kerb and gutter, and driveways. I also lay pipes and headwalls, work on bridges, and from time to time you’ll see me working in flood mitigation.”

Josh’s dream growing up was to become a professional football player in England or fly high as a pilot, though setting up in the Macleay is the next best thing for him.

“On the weekend you’ll see me either on the sporting fields playing soccer or cricket or going for a swim at the beach. One of my favourite things about the Macleay Valley is that we hands-down have the best beaches.”

Our stunning area is something Josh enjoys each day working at Council, being outside and completing tasks in different environments.

“My favourite thing about working at Council is that every day is different, like one day you could be doing kerb and gutter and the next you could be repairing flood gates. You get to work in some of the best spots along the coast – for example, right on the beach or along the river where it’s got nice scenery.”

Josh is one of more than 300 Council staff working hard every day to provide an enormous number of services to residents.
