City of Gold Coast advises the city is experiencing dangerously heavy rainfall with potential for flash flooding across the city.Emergency services and the City are working to assist the community. However, you should not expect authorities at your door.

If your life is threatened, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. For flood and storm help call the State Emergency Service on 132 500.

Potential impacts

  • Flash flooding is occurring across the city
  • Roads may be closed or become flooded, do not drive through or enter floodwater
  • Parts of the community may become isolated
  • Some properties may be under threat
  • Power, water, internet and all phone services may stop working in some areas
  • Public transport could stop
  • Dangerous conditions on waterways and beaches

What you should do

  • Monitor conditions as they are changing and take action based on your circumstances – CONSIDER MOVING TO HIGHER GROUND
  • If you have a household emergency plan, refer to it now
  • Decide when and where you and other members of your home (including pets) will go if you need to leave. Plan how you will get there and advise family and friends of your plans
  • Do not drive through or enter floodwater
  • Pack essential items for at least 3 days such as:

ophones/chargers, important documents, ID, cash, keys, food and water, medications, and protective clothing

onappies, baby formula/food, wipes – plan not to have a fridge or microwave

opets, pet food, crate, bowls, lead

  • Help family, friends, and neighbours if you can
  • If you find it hard to move quickly, leaving now is safer. If you do not drive, call your support service,family member or a friend to organise transport
  • If safe to do so and if you have time:

osecure items around your home

obatten down and secure boats, jetskis and pontoons

olift important things onto benches, tables, high shelves or upstairs to protect them.

ocharge mobile phones and power banks

oblock toilets, sinks and drains with sandbags to stop sewerage backflow if you can

olock windows and doors

omove cars to higher ground

If you are camping or caravanning

  • Pack up your campsite
  • Check water levels and warning updates through the day and night
  • Move people, pets, camping gear and vehicles to higher ground

If you have livestock

  • Move livestock to higher ground – open gates to other paddocks so animals can move if floodwaters rise
  • Block access to low-lying fields, shelters or places near creeks and rivers
  • Provide lots of food and clean water in a safe place away from creeks and rivers
  • Make sure animals can be identified if they get lost
