Benalla Rural City Council is reminding residents that the public survey for the development of the Roadside Weeds and Pests Program (RWPP) Control Plan for 2023-2026 will be closing at 5pm on Thursday 7 December 2023.

The RWPP Control Plan is a crucial component of the Council’s efforts in managing invasive plants and pest animals in Benalla Rural City. This program, funded by the Department of Government Services, plays a pivotal role in safeguarding agricultural land, parks, forests, and rural land asset values across Victoria.

The Control Plan not only reflects Council’s past initiatives in weed and pest management but also outlines future strategies. Updated annually, it incorporates changes based on infestation dynamics and community feedback. This continuous improvement ensures an effective and adaptive approach to environmental preservation.

As part of the ongoing 2023/24 program, Council is developing a Control Plan (2023-26). This plan will not only manage the current year’s challenges but will also highlight key target areas and species for the next three years, forming a strategic roadmap for sustainable weed and pest control.

To ensure the RWPP Control Plan is comprehensive and reflective of community needs, the Council’s Environment Team invites public input in the following areas:

  • Priority weeds, roadsides, or areas for treatment.
  • Community-led weed and pest control activities.
  • Areas where treatment should not occur.

This is a final call for community members to contribute to the shaping of Benalla’s environmental future. The survey will officially close at 5pm on Thursday 7 December 2023.
