Welcoming Tribunal Decision On Marinus Link Permit

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government welcomes today’s decision by the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT) to affirm the planning permit for the Marinus Link Heybridge Converter Station.

Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said the decision was another important milestone for Project Marinus and provides further certainty as the project continues into delivery.

“Project Marinus is a once-in-a-generation investment in Tasmania’s future that will strengthen energy security, support economic growth and help keep electricity prices lower than they would otherwise be,” Minister Duigan said.

“This decision means we can continue getting on with the job of delivering the infrastructure Tasmania needs for the future, a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.”

The decision follows TASCAT’s earlier affirmation of the planning permit for the North West Transmission Developments, providing further confidence in one of Tasmania’s most heavily scrutinised infrastructure projects.

“Our planning and regulatory processes are robust and independent, and Tasmanians can have confidence in them,” Minister Duigan said.

“Our Government remains focused on ensuring Tasmania captures the economic, energy security and intergenerational benefits that Project Marinus will deliver.”
