West Belconnen’s newest public housing ready for tenants

The ACT Government is building and renewing the housing our growing city needs, with construction on nine new public housing units in West Belconnen now complete and ready to welcome its newest tenants.

The homes have been developed under the ACT Government’s Growing and Renewing Public Housing Program, which has seen more than 475 homes built and a further 577 under design or construction since the launch of the program in July 2019.

The program demonstrates the ACT Government’s strong commitment to providing high quality public housing that caters to tenants’ needs.

Minister for Housing and Suburban Development Yvette Berry said: “It’s important to us that public housing doesn’t present further barriers for the people who need it.”

“The homes in this development add to the category of public housing in highest demand, with approximately 80 per cent of all housing applicants able to be housed into two-bedroom dwellings.

“These new homes are complete with Class C adaptable features, which make them ideal for people with different mobility and accessibility needs and supports tenants to age in place.

“Located close to a school, shops, and transport, these homes cater to the needs of tenants who live in these residences. The 7-star energy rating of these homes offer greater comfort and increased affordability for tenants.

“This development embodies the ACT Government’s commitment to public housing properties that match how people want to live and where they want to live.”
