Western Sydney University success in major global rankings

Western Sydney University has continued to improve its international standing in the latest prestigious world rankings, reaffirming the University’s reputation as a world-leader when it comes to research, education and innovation.

The recent release of the Leiden Rankings has seen the University’s position jump from 24 to 17 in Australia, and move from 323 to 202in the world.

The Leiden rankings are administered by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University in the Netherlands. They measure the impact of scientific research publications and collaborations, offering insights into the performance of over 1,200 major universities across the world.

In particular, the University performed strongly in the category of Mathematics and Computing Sciences, where it was ranked 19^th in the world, and Physical Sciences and Engineering where it was ranked 64^th internationally.

This follows news that Western Sydney University was ranked 1st in Australia and 13^th internationally for Ecology in the recently released Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). It ranked within the top 10 Australian universities in the disciplines Automation Control, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Sciences and Nursing.

The University also ranked in the top 500 in the latest QS World University Rankings.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barney Glover, says these latest rankings results affirm the University’s excellence in research and teaching, and the transformative impact it has on the community.

“It is pleasing to see the University continue to strengthen its position across many of the world’s major rankings systems, which is the result of our long-term program of investment in research, teaching and encouraging innovation that has a real impact on our communities both locally and globally,” said Professor Glover.

“These latest rankings add to the University’s impressive list of international credentials, and is testament to the hard work of all our staff and students. I warmly congratulate everyone across the University on this latest result.”
