Wet weather road status information - update at 5pm, 27 February 2022

Ballina Shire Council is asking all motorists to be vigilant and take care on all local roads as heavy rain continues. We are encouraging residents to stay at home and only leave their properties for essential reasons.

The Pacific Highway off ramp at North Ballina is closed and the Cumbalum Interchange (Roundabout) are closed due to flooding. Access to Ballina Heights and Cumbalum is for locals only through Deadmans Ck Road. Roads and Maritime Service are on sight and working with Ballina Shire Council crews.

Several local roads have been closed. Ballina Shire Council staff are regularly checking roads across our shire and signposting flooded roads. Not all urban roads can be signposted but may have water over the road, so be aware of changing conditions and do not drive in flood waters.

COUNCIL SERVICES

Rural bin collection services

Due to the current wet weather event and road closures, Council’s Resource Recovery Team have been unable to complete some rural bin collection services this week. These bins have now been recollected, except for Houghlahans Creek Road, which is scheduled to be recollected on Monday 28 February 2022.

Where possible, Council asks these residents to leave their bins out ready for collection as soon as possible.

Burns Point Ferry is operating. Please exercise caution when driving on and off the ferry.

Minimise water use

Residents are asked to please minimise their water use, through kitchen taps, showers, washing and toilet flushing. Wet weather events can place extra strain on the wastewater network. If residents experience problems with sewerage on their property please call Council on 1300 864 444.
