A 22-year-old man will have to explain to his mum how he totalled her car after allegedly crashing into a bridge while drunk in Pakenham this morning.
Police will allege the man was speeding along Irving Road, near Falling Water Drive, when he lost control and mounted a nature strip about 10am.
The vehicle has gone airborne, before taking out several metal bollards and running into a bridge pylon.
Witnesses reported the crash to police, who quickly responded and found the driver had fled on foot.
After a search of the nearby area, he was located hiding in a relative’s nearby home where he was taken into custody.
Pakenham members breath-tested the man, who returned an alleged reading of .15.
He was also found to be driving on a suspended licence and a search of the vehicle located a small quantity of cocaine.
The Pakenham man was released and is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic-related offences.
Perhaps the worst penalty of all will be explaining to his mum that she no longer has a car.
