White stakes her leadership on Dr Broad

Members,

Rebecca White’s failure to hold Dr Shane Broad to account for his toxic behaviour demonstrates the type of Leader she is.

Liberal Member for Prosser, Jane Howlett, said that despite having every opportunity to address the issue yesterday, Ms White has been silent on the matter.

“It’s clear that Dr Broad’s behaviour is acceptable to Ms White and her colleagues,” Ms Howlett said.

“Why won’t Ms White reprimand Dr Broad for his comments and force him to publicly apologise?

“Culture starts at the top, and if Ms White is not willing to make the hard decisions in opposition, how on earth could Tasmanians ever expect her to govern the State?”

Dr Broad has caused fury among Tasmanians after insulting 22,700 members of the Yes AFL Team, Yes Stadium group implying that they were a group of “middle-aged males” who would get a “little bit of a crazy bent, to go and do something stupid.”

He also labelled Liberal Minister, Madeleine Ogilvie, an “idiot” during the same unhinged tirade.

Ms Howlett said Rebecca White’s silence on this behaviour is as good as an endorsement of Dr Broad’s views.

“Rebecca White is willing to accept this behaviour from one Labor colleague – but enforces different standards on others.

“It’s clear that Rebecca White is willing to stake her leadership on Dr Broad because she doesn’t have the courage to do what’s right.

“Or is it because she knows if she does, her leadership is over?”
