Who is your local hero?

There is still time to nominate your local heroes for the 2021 Bass Coast Australia Day Awards for Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.

Do you know someone living in Bass Coast who is making our community a better place, inspires others to do the same, goes above and beyond in everything they do and is an absolute legend?

We need your help to identify and nominate our local heroes, so we can celebrate all they do in the community.

Nominating is easy and only takes a few minutes.

Visit www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/ausday2021 to read the guidelines and to nominate someone by Monday, 23 November 2020.

The finalists and winners will be announced in the lead up to Australia Day in January 2021.

This year’s Bass Coast Citizen of the Year Don Turner, said it is an honour just to be nominated.

“Past award winners and nominees have had a huge influence on making Bass Coast such a great community. To be considered alongside this group is very humbling,” Mr Turner said.

“Hopefully, I’m seen by others as something of a role model, that shows how the efforts of ordinary people can contribute to a better community.

“There are thousands of people doing great things in the Bass Coast community. Nearly all of these go unnoticed or unrecognised.”

“Although people are not generally looking for public acknowledgement, it is not only appropriate for great volunteer and community work to be celebrated.” Mr Turner concluded.

All nominees should:

  • have made significant contributions to the Bass Coast community
  • have acted above and beyond the scope of their regular employment or duties
  • be inspirational role models
  • positively impact the lives of others
  • live within the Shire

Nominees for Citizen of the Year must be aged 25 years or over on 26 January 2021 and for Young Citizen of the Year must be aged 16 to 24 years on 26 January 2021. Nominations must be for individuals, as those for multiple people cannot be considered.
