Have you noticed someone who is taking their sustainability ideas and actions to the next level?

Maybe they’ve invented a new product, found better ways of working, or have turned a small idea into a major catalyst for change?

Council is seeking nominations for the Byron Shire Sustainability Awards 2020 for outstanding projects and initiatives from individuals, groups and organisations in the following four categories: Sustainability, Biodiversity, Waste and Water.

“There is so much innovative work going on in the sustainability space in the Byron Shire and the purpose of these awards is to take the time to celebrate and recognise people who are going above and beyond to protect and enhance our environment and make a real difference,” Byron Shire Mayor Simon Richardson said.

“This is exciting stuff because these awards will shine a light on the boundless passion I know our community has to put the planet first, and the creative ways people have found to achieve this,” he said.

“Nominate someone you know or self-nominate – we’ve made the nomination period extra-long, until 5 May because we want to hear all the inspiring stories out there and we want to give everyone plenty of time to get involved,” Mayor Richardson said.

Entries will be judged by a panel in May and shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a Make Change Happen masterclass, to inspire further collaboration with change-makers in the community.

Finalists and winners will be announced at a Sustainability Awards 2020 Ceremony on Thursday 4 June, in the lead up to World Environment Day.
