Willoughby residents encouraged to vote at Australian Referendum

Willoughby City Council is reminding residents to participate in the upcoming Australian Referendum on The Voice to Parliament by visiting polling centres throughout the LGA Accessible polling places for the upcoming referendum | Willoughby City Council (nsw.gov.au) https://www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Campaigns/Accessible-polling-places-for-the-upcoming-referendum

Mayor Tanya Taylor emphasised that the council is dedicated to ensuring the voices of Willoughby’s diverse community are heard and that a fair and informed public debate is accessible to all.

“This referendum is everyone’s chance to have a say on the future of Australia and our nations Constitution,” Mayor Taylor said.

While most Australians will vote on 14 October, those who are unable can vote at select polling centres from Tuesday 3 October.

The Voice to Parliament was recommended by a historic document in 2017 called the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Drafted by more than 250 Indigenous leaders, the statement is considered the best – though not unanimous – call to action for reforms on issues affecting First Nations Australians. It also lays out a longer process of treaty-making and truth-telling.
