Winbourne Parklet comes alive to arts and craft, puppies and brunch

A series of free community activations aimed at energising the Mount Waverley Shopping Centre will take place next month at the new Winbourne Road Parklet.

The program will feature two events, Mount Waverley Mini Makers and Creators on Saturday 24 July and Pups on Winbourne on Saturday 31 July, as well as trader specials for brunch and lunch.

The project has been funded by a grant from the State Government Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, under the Local Councils Eating and Entertainment Grant Program.

The Mount Waverley Mini Makers and Creators event will invite budding artists to the Winbourne Road Parklet for ‘Pimp my bike’ bicycle decorating activities and mini maker workshops for crafting and beading. Young residents can also enjoy life drawing classes.

Pups on Winbourne will feature all things for the family and their canine pet. Purchase puppy fashion and accessories or take part in puppy obedience classes and doggy treat decorating. Experienced pet photographers Pupparazzi will also be on hand, ready to take professional shots of families and their furry loved ones.

The free community activation program is aimed at Monash families with children aged 3-12, customers who frequent the Mount Waverley Shopping Centre and Mount Waverley residents who don’t already use the shopping centre. It is also hoped to attract potential shoppers from surrounding neighbourhoods and municipalities who have not yet discovered Mount Waverley or need a reminder to return to the centre for shopping and dining.

Monash Mayor Brian Little said the activation program would bring the community to the newly-built Winbourne Road Parklet, providing an opportunity for community connection and fun.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to enjoy a range of free activities with their families and friends, while also supporting local hospitality businesses after a challenging year,” Cr Little said.

“We’re proud to work with our traders and the State Government to activate our shopping centres and bring more people into Monash as we recover from COVID-19.”

Mount Waverley Mini Makers and Creators will take place on Saturday 24 July, 10am-2pm, and Pups on Winbourne is on Saturday 31 July, 10am-2pm.
