Winners of Life and Light photo competition announced

The winners of this year’s Life and Light in the Western Region Photo Competition have been announced with a photo of something rarely seen in recent years — a young child playing in puddles — taking out the top gong in the colour open aged category.

The image, taken by Brigitte O’Connor and titled ‘Playing in puddles’ shows the joy of playing outside following a storm, with the dark clouds in the background giving an indication there may be more rain on the way very shortly.

In the black and white open age category, a beautiful shot of camping in the far west by Amanda Fisk was the winner, while Amanda was also the runner up with an image of a road-train being loaded with hay as the helper packs up for the day.

A total of 388 entries across four categories were received, with all images also entered in the people’s choice category which is decided through votes via the competition’s Facebook page. All of the images that were judged were taken in the Western Local Land Services region and linked to the theme of ‘Love Our Outback’.

The Life and Light Photo Competition is run jointly by Western Local Land Services and Western Landcare NSW. This year the Royal Flying Doctor Service came onboard to help bring a wellbeing focus to the competition.

Western Local Land Services and Western Landcare NSW thank the Royal Flying Doctor Service for coming on board as a partner.
