Food and film festivals, theatre projects and roller discos are among the activities the NSW Government will make available to young people in regional NSW during the upcoming winter school holidays through the Holiday Break program.
Minister for Youth Rose Jackson said more than 120 programs covering everything from art and science to sport and cultural connectedness will be on offer to young people, allowing them to expand their horizons over the break.
“The Holiday Break program offers a range of free activities for young people and will cater to all sorts of interests ensuring there’s something for everyone these school holidays,” Ms Jackson said.
“Every young person in regional NSW should be able to access fun and engaging activities regardless of where they live. We want to ensure we are working to remove barriers for young people in regional locations who want to try new things.
“We know participating in social and recreational activities can be expensive, by removing the cost we hope more people have the opportunity to explore a new interest over the holiday break.
“The NSW Government has program partnerships that allow the delivery of a wide range of activities for young people, whether they want to hone an artistic skill, develop their sporting prowess or explore something entirely new during the school holidays.”
Our partnerships with the NSW Office of Sport and Rugby NSW will see sporting camps and workshops through the winter holidays allowing young people to develop their sporting skills.
Holiday Break’s newest program partner One Giant Leap Australia is also offering its highly sought-after Aerospace Academy, which includes space and aviation days for young people interested in learning more about the science of flight.
Education Outreach Manager from One Giant Leap Jenna McCarthy says it will allow them to offer the program in more locations and get more young people interested in STEM subjects.
“Our participants get to build, test and launch rockets, fly drones and engage with flight simulators. It’s a fun way to learn about aerodynamics and the science of space, get introduced to STEM subjects and helps young people to see what kind of careers might be open to them in the aviation and space sectors,” Ms McCarthy said.
