Wollondilly’s new Performing Arts Centre and Cultural Precinct is one step closer to reality

Wollondilly Council

Wollondilly’s amazing new 350+ seat Performing Arts Centre is one step closer to becoming a reality, following independent approval of the development application by the NSW Planning Panel last week.

Council is now calling for tenders for the construction of the Performing Arts Centre, which is the crucial next phase of Stage 1 of the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct.

The beautiful new building will provide a state-of-the-art local venue for music, theatre, exhibitions and civic events, and will be a major injection into the cultural life of Picton and the wider Wollondilly area.

Mayor Matt Gould said, “I’m really looking forward to seeing this vision become a reality for the Wollondilly community.”

“The Performing Arts Centre will be able to host a range of live performances and functions, which will not only provide a space for people to gather and socialise but will support the stimulation of our local economy.”

“It will provide an important space for the local arts sector and will hopefully inspire creativity and cultural expression in the years ahead.”

“This is the next big step in delivery of Council’s visionary Wollondilly Cultural Precinct, which will also see a great new village green, government services building and library for the benefit of all of the Wollondilly community.”

The architectural design of the new multi-purpose building is dramatic and will be on display to visitors entering the Picton town centre from the motorway.

The development application was approved with a condition that the architect’s vision for the building is followed through in regard to quality of materials and workmanship, ensuring that the finished project will be impressive and do justice to the prominent location.

This project is funded by grants including the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, developer contributions and building renewal funds.
