Woman charged; four infringements issued over Byron Bay party, NSW

A woman has been charged and four Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) issued following a beach party in the Byron Bay area overnight.

About midnight (Saturday 25 September 2021), police received reports of a party with loud music in the sand dunes behind Belongil Beach at Byron Bay.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District attended and the crowd of approximately 25-20 people dispersed into nearby bushland.

Police stopped a number of people including a 21-year-old woman who resisted officers and attempted to flee.

The woman has allegedly bitten an officer on the hand and while being escorted to the station has entangled her legs around those of a female senior constable, causing both to fall to the ground.

At the station, officers allegedly located methylamphetamine in her possession.

The woman was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, and possess prohibited drug.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Monday 25 October 2021. She was also issued a $3000 PIN for not comply with noticed direction re s7/8/9 – COVID-19.

Three additional attendees were also issued $3000 PINS for not comply with noticed direction re s7/8/9 – COVID-19.
