Woman dies in multi-vehicle crash at Illawarra, NSW

A woman has died in a multi-vehicle crash in the state’s Illawarra Region today.

About 7.15pm (Friday 5 March 2021) emergency services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash south-bound on the M1 Princes Highway at Figtree, near the Masters Road off-ramp.

The crash resulted in a blue Holden Statesman sedan vehicle hitting a tree, trapping the four occupants. The female driver was declared deceased at the scene.

A female passenger was airlifted to Westmead hospital in a critical condition and two children were taken to Wollongong Hospital in stable conditions.

A female driver of a second vehicle was uninjured and has been taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended the scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Traffic diversions for southbound traffic was established and northbound traffic was also diverted for a short time for a helicopter to land and take the injured people to hospital. It is expected southbound traffic diversions will remain in place while officers from the Crash Investigation Unit conduct an examination of the crash site.
