Woman in critical condition after tree falls on moving vehicle, NSW

A woman remains in a critical condition after a tree fell on a vehicle while travelling along a road in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

About 8.20pm (Friday 26 November 2021), emergency services were called to Menangle Road, near Glen Alpine Drive, Glen Alpine, after reports a large tree had fallen across the roadway and struck a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command located a Ford Ranger, which had been extensively damaged by a large gum tree.

When it fell, the tree also landed on the fence of a power substation and struck a transformer.

The driver of the vehicle – a 24-year-old man – was not physically injured and was able to exit the vehicle.

His passenger – a 22-year-old woman – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition for treatment of head and spinal injuries.

The road remains closed as emergency crews work to clear the large tree and debris. Local road diversions are in place, please check www.livetraffic.com prior to travelling.
