Women in Aviation survey insights

The Barriers to the Pipeline Research Project survey by Aviation / Aerospace Australia has shed light on what motivates and discourages women from taking up a career in aviation.

The research, funded through our Women in the Aviation Industry Initiative, was a collaborative effort between Aviation/Aerospace Australia, RMIT University, UNSW and Monash University. It gathered insights from 180 people, 86% were women, across the aviation industry.

The majority of participants (90%) agreed that a passion for aviation is the strongest factor driving female recruitment.

However, it highlighted that the key barriers to a career in this sector include a lack of flexibility around maternity leave, male domination and implicit/explicit bias.

These insights will help inform our strategies to encourage women to join and to stay in aviation.
