Women’s-only aquatic program reaches halfway mark

The second half of the City of Swan’s very first women’s-only aquatic program at Swan Active Beechboro is set to commence next month.

The women’s-only program offers women the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing in a safe and culturally appropriate environment.

City of Swan Deputy Mayor Mel Congerton said the City has so far received really positive feedback from program participants.

“The City recently surveyed participants of the women’s-only program and it was great to learn that 95 per cent of those surveyed would recommend the program to a family or friend,” he said.

“The majority of survey participants said their favourite activity was swimming lessons, followed by swimming laps and enjoying recreation time with family.”

“Importantly, participants also said they feel the program provides a safe environment for them to swim and recreate.”

“We have such a diverse and multicultural community in the City of Swan and we’re really proud to be able to open up our pool in Beechboro to women in our community who otherwise may not be able to access it for religious or cultural reasons.”

Program participant Komal Saini said it’s been a great experience to learn and have fun.

“We didn’t have the chance to swim in India because there were no classes, but here we have the opportunity to learn,” Komal said.

“Before the program I was scared of water, but now I am familiar and love swimming at Swan Active Beechboro on Sunday afternoons, and we love participating in the women’s sessions,” she said.

The women’s-only aquatic program will recommence on Sunday afternoons at Swan Active Beechboro from 3-5pm from February 5.
