Police have charged 2 people after a suspicious fire at Woolworths Supermarket in New Town this afternoon.
Tasmania Fire Service and Police were called to the scene about 1.20pm today. The fire was put out quickly, however smoke damage to stock is estimated to be between $100, 000 to $200, 000.
Police obtained CCTV footage which clearly identified the people involved.
Police executed a search warrant on a Risdon Vale address where the suspects and stolen property were located.
Two youths aged 15 and 17 have been charged with unlawfully set fire to property and stealing. Both youths have been remanded in custody to appear in Hobart Youth Justice Court on 14 September 2022.
