The Cook Labor Government is building a State of Energy in Western Australia with construction underway on two new transmission lines as part of Clean Energy Link – North (CEL-North).
Work has now begun on 11 kilometres of new transmission lines which will provide homes and businesses throughout Perth with renewable energy from job-creating projects in the Mid West.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for CEL-North, which is delivering the critical network infrastructure that will underpin WA’s clean energy future.
These works include:
- 6 kilometres of 132kV transmission line between Padbury Substation and Wangara Substation; and
- 5 kilometres of 132kV transmission line linking the Northern Terminal to Henley Brook Substation.
Transmission line works are expected to be completed by mid-2027.
Acciona is undertaking the work with CEL-North expected to create more than 400 quality local jobs during construction.
When complete, CEL-North will enable the connection and transport of more than 1 gigawatt of onshore wind power from the Mid West to homes and businesses across the Perth metropolitan area.
These works follow the Cook Labor Government’s announcement of $1.4 billion in funding to establish a Clean Energy Fund, which will support projects to decarbonise WA.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“My government has already declared Clean Energy Link – North a priority project under the State Development Act, helping us deliver the transmission needed to bring online more job-creating projects in regional WA.
“It demonstrates our commitment to diversifying our State’s economy by building a State of Energy here in WA.”
As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“That’s why we are building the infrastructure we need to unlock renewable energy opportunities.
“When complete, Clean Energy Link – North will power thousands of local homes, while capitalising on WA’s abundant wind and solar resources.”
