Work on new Melville Oval netball courts starts

Work is steadily progressing on the $8.4 million Melville Oval Facilities Redevelopment project in Hamilton by local lead contractor, Ultrabuild Pty Ltd.

Major earthworks are underway in preparation for the new pavilion to be built next to the heritage grandstand.

In addition, crushed rock has been laid as part of the foundation for the two new netball courts that will be situated near Market Place.

Mayor Councillor David Robertson said it was exciting to watch the major project get well underway.

“This project is part of council’s commitment to supporting and promoting a healthy community,” said Cr Roberston.

“When completed, the new facilities will increase our regional profile, create sustainable assets and infrastructure, and provide attractive council-owned and managed community and open spaces.”

He said although the community could still use parts of Melville Oval for recreational use, it was important that everyone stayed behind the construction fencing.

Pedestrians and motorists should also be mindful of extra traffic in the area due to the construction.

The Federal Government has contributed $8.01m to this project.
