Work will soon start on constructing more than 100 new affordable purpose-built homes under the Morrison Government’s Hobart City Deal after three capital works contracts were signed.
Assistant Minister for Community Housing, Homelessness and Community Services Luke Howarth said the landmark deal would help more Tasmanians access safe and affordable housing.
“The Hobart City Deal is a 10-year vision between the Morrison Government, the Hodgman Government and local councils to build better outcomes for people living and working in the region,” Assistant Minister Howarth said.
The Hobart City Deal: Improving Social Housing Outcomes is a long-term investment with housing built under this grant to be in place for the next 30 years.
It forms part of the Hobart City Deal, which is a partnership between three levels of government to build on Hobart’s position as a vibrant, liveable and connected global city.
“Investing in affordable housing is central to this vision and this signing marks the next step in the construction of more than 100 additional homes for people on the social housing priority waitlist,” Assistant Minister Howarth said.
“The homes will be energy efficient and purpose built to meet the needs of residents including those with a disability.”
Grant funding agreements were signed between the Morrison Government and CatholicCare Tasmania, Community Housing Limited and Housing Choices Tasmania.
Each organisation will receive $8 million to proceed with the total development of more than 100 social houses in Greater Hobart.
