The Victorian Greens have called on the Victorian Labor Government to withdraw its proposed WorkCover bill, after a committee heard damning evidence from unions earlier today.
The Victorian Parliament’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee began hearings today into the bill, after its passage was delayed as a result of Greens pressure.
Victorian Greens industrial relations spokesperson, Sam Hibbins, said the Greens wouldn’t support a bill that screwed over Victorian workers.
He said any WorkCover reforms should be focused on better supporting injured workers and improving workplace practices, not rushing through legislation that pulled the rug out from underneath them.
As stated by Victorian Greens industrial relations spokesperson, Sam Hibbins MP:
“The evidence the committee has heard on Labor’s harsh WorkCover bill is damning.
“If passed, these changes will push injured workers into poverty, emergency departments, and an already overstretched mental health system.
“If Labor had any sense they would withdraw their harsh anti-worker bill, go back to the drawing board and improve WorkCover to better support injured workers and make workplaces safer.”
