WorkCover Queensland CEO Bruce Watson retiring

After seven years as CEO of WorkCover Queensland, Bruce Watson will retire on the 16th of February 2024.

Bruce has been unwell of late and has decided to take more time to focus on his health and explore new opportunities on a part-time basis.

Bruce has led the organisation through a number of significant periods including the re-emergence of black lung disease, the nation-leading screening of all Queensland engineered stone benchtop workers for silicosis and, in more recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his tenure, WorkCover has supported more than 400,000 Queenslanders injured at work, covered more than 150,000 Queensland business, and supported a passionate workforce. Bruce has also been an expert member of the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Board and a Director of the Personal Injury Education Foundation.

Bruce is extremely proud of WorkCover for continuing to have the lowest workers’ compensation premiums in Australia, equal lowest disputation and the highest percentage of premiums going directly to workers.

We would like to thank Bruce for his service to WorkCover and we wish him all the best in his future.
