Works Begin On New Police Station For Bridgewater

Works have begun on the construction of the new Bridgewater Police Station, which will strengthen policing capabilities in one of Tasmania Police’s largest divisions.

Bolstered by a $12.5 million commitment by the Tasmanian Government, this investment will ensure that Tasmania Police personnel can continue to conduct effective policing, consistent with current and future requirements of the rapidly growing municipalities they serve.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency management, Felix Ellis, said the new, purpose-built facility will support the needs of Tasmania Police now and well into the future.

“With record numbers of Police on the beat, it’s crucial we have the infrastructure to match,” Minister Ellis said.

“The existing station was designed to cater for 20 police officers. Once the new facility is complete, that number will more than triple.

“The new station will take up a much larger footprint on the site, including a new incident management centre and a vulnerable witness interview room, designed to meet best practice for victim-survivors.

“Through our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are backing-in Tasmania Police to crack down on crime.”

During the construction period, Bridgewater police officers will operate from the temporary station at Brighton Civic Centre, as well as Glenorchy and New Norfolk stations.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2025.
