Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has turned the first sod at Sunningdale Primary School, with construction of the brand new school in Yanchep officially underway.
Sunningdale Primary School will accommodate 430 students from kindergarten to Year 6 in state-of-the-art facilities that will feature a dedicated early childhood teaching block and three general classroom blocks, including a specialised art and craft room.
Students and staff will also enjoy a covered assembly area with a canteen and music room, as well as a library resource centre, staff room, conference room and administration building.
The new school at 35 Sunningdale Road will officially open for the 2021 school year and will ease pressure on surrounding primary schools in the Yanchep area.
An estimated 300 jobs will be created by the school’s construction which is being undertaken by WA company EMCO Building.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“This is an exciting moment for the Yanchep community and families who will benefit from the new Sunningdale Primary School.
“I am proud that we are building another state-of-the-art school to provide children with a high-quality education and set them up for successful lives.
“The school’s construction and the employment of teachers and staff creates a range of job opportunities, including for local businesses.”
As stated by Butler MLA John Quigley:
“Sunningdale Primary School will give local kids a shorter journey to school.
“Youngsters in the area will be learning in new buildings and in the best possible environment.
“Parents in the St Andrews and Yanchep Golf estates have been crying out for closer schooling options for years. I’m so proud to be delivering on this much-needed local school.”
