Works to start on Mulgrave Reserve multi-sport pavilion

Construction of an upgraded multi-sport pavilion at Mulgrave Reserve will begin shortly with the new facility expected to open mid next year.

The refurbished pavilion will deliver on improving female-friendly facilities and support increased use of the reserve, in particular for tenant clubs Mulgrave Football Club, Mulgrave Cricket Club, Eastern Devils Football Club and Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club.

Council received $2M towards the project from the State Government through the Local Sports Grants Fund, with Council matching the contribution with $2M.

The redevelopment project involves an upgrade and extension of the existing ageing pavilion, along with several other reserve improvements including the formalisation of reserve pathways to allow more accessibility, 20 additional car parking bays and a shared vehicle and pedestrian drop-off zone.

The pavilion will see a refreshment of existing amenities and construction of two new unisex player and umpire change rooms, a refurbished kitchen and canteen area, additional storage, a new meeting room and external public toilet facilities.

Monash Mayor Brian Little said this was an exciting project that would deliver significant benefits for the clubs and people who use and enjoy the reserve.

“This is a popular sporting hub for our community and these works will significantly improve the accessibility and usability of the reserve and its facilities,” Cr Little said.

“Community sport is such an important part of our city and we’re proud to invest in ways to encourage social participation and physical activity in Monash.”

Construction is expected to finish in mid 2022.
