Works Update 10 June

Road construction is continuing across the shire, with works this week including:

• Guardrail installation and line marking works have been completed on Segment 2 of Clarence Town Road.
• Council crews are continuing works on Segment 8 of Clarence Town Road (south of the Clarence Town Road and Cemetery Road intersection), with sealing of the works completed this week and guardrail installation scheduled to occur in the next fortnight.
• Works are progressing on the installation of safety barriers on Bingleburra Road, under the NSW Government’s Road Safety program. All site preparations for rail installation are now complete and contractors will complete the remaining rail installation over the next fortnight (approximately 1km remaining).
• Shoulder widening and culvert extension works are continuing on Bingleburra Road, under the NSW Government’s $25M Special Purpose Grant. The project will deliver 650m of road rehabilitation close to the intersection of Allyn River Road. The first major culvert widening is now complete, with work underway on the second. Shoulder widening is ongoing and preparation works for the pavement overlay will commence next week.
• Pavement works are continuing as part of a safety upgrade on Gresford Road at the Clements Road intersection, with stabilisation completed this week. 1.4km of road will be upgraded under combined funding from the Australian Government’s Black Spot program, NSW Regional Roads Repair Program, and council funds. Road sealing is programmed for next week.
• Footing construction for the installation of guardrail on the Stroud Hill Road viaduct have been completed for the southbound lane this week, with northbound lane works proposed for next week. Guardrail installation is planned by the end of June, following a period of concrete curing. These works are funded under the NSW Government’s Road Safety program.
• Summerhill Road rehabilitation works have recommenced this week, with the site re-established. Site clearing and grubbing will commence next week. These works are funded under the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program.
• Early works will be undertaken in the upcoming fortnight for Duke Street and Queen Street, with signage and service relocations and adjustments.

BRIDGES

The $16.44M timber bridge replacement program is continuing under the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges program. Recent updates include:

• Preparations for bridge approaches for the new Hopson’s Bridge are progressing.
• The pouring of the deck for the new Saxby’s Bridge was completed this week, with further work to be undertaken on the bridge sub-structure in the week ahead.
• Subcontractors have been onsite this week to restore the support for the eastern approach slab (Vacy side) for Bruxner Bridge that was washed away in extreme weather events earlier this year. Following this, council works crews are preparing to commence the road approach works in approximately two weeks.

COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE

• Bruyn Park public amenities block is set for installation, including roofing solar panels, water supply and bubbler. These works are funded by the Hunter Water Corporation Grant and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant.
• Demolition of the old Shelton Shed on Hooke Street is progressing, with services being disconnected, and quotes being invited from demolition contractors.
• The Library Upgrade Project tender assessment has been completed, with the tender to be awarded at this month’s Ordinary Council Meeting on 15 June.
• Site establishment was completed for the Gresford Sporting Amenities Construction Project. Building set-out and site clearing were completed this week. Offsite fabrication of some building elements will commence next week. The works are funded by Developer Contributions, a Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grant and the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
• Preparation works are underway for the Clarence Town Village Green Amenities Project. This project includes lighting upgrades to the concrete pathway and public amenities block.
